We started off PINK week with Fine Motor Skills activities
Communication in Nursery happens in a variety of different ways. Some children use gestures, for example pointing or leading the adult by the hand, other children use picture exchange where they exchange a photo or symbol to request an object. Adults use intensive interaction techniques to communicate with some children, for example through using eye contact or responding to a sound/action made by their interaction partner. Other children are using speech or learning makaton. Staff strive to make our Nursery, a total communication environment where all communication strategies are used for the benefit of all children. Most children will use a combination of the strategies mentioned above. Take a look at the photographs below to see some communication strategies in action.

Snapshot of our Getting Ready to Learn session on Friday
Our first Stay and Play session on Friday 24th November seen parents come into school to join us for sensory play. We enjoyed learning through discovery in coloured rice and pasta, shaving foam, scented water, soil, coloured sand and gelly bath! We even designed our own crowns! We don’t know who enjoyed themselves more - the children or the adults? Have a look at the photographs below and you can decide.
During Anti-bullying week we read the story ‘Rainbow Fish’ and explored paint to make beautiful fish
Halloween fun - mess, slime, pumpkins, spiders, ghosts and witches....just a few of the ingredients we used this week to make a marvellous selection of activities for the children. Have a look below to see what we were doing.
Fruit and Vegetable week alongside Maths week was a huge success! The children enjoyed fruit printing in Art, scooping fruit and veg in the water tray, making sand mounds of fruit and playing on the farm in the small world area. In Maths we sorted real fruit, vegetable photographs and counted out fruit we found in the sensory tray. Our role play area became a farm shop where we sorted fruit and vegetables into the correct coloured tubs and pretended to be the shopkeeper and customers. We took turns using the till and scanning the food to buy the food. Our shop even had a phone which we used to practise recognising numbers. Great fun was had by everyone, even the staff enjoyed using the baskets to go shopping!
Outdoor Classroom Day - 12th October
The children had a great time during outdoor classroom day. In Nursery we spend time outside everyday but on this day we spent a lot longer outside and the children had a chance to visit all the different areas that were set up! A particular favourite was the water area. The children loved using different containers and filling them up to pour down the drainpipes. Have a look at the photographs below to see some of the highlights!
We have had a fantastic week learning about all things blue!
We have explored blue toys in the water tray, sand tray and tuff tray. In art we have investigated how to make different shades of blue and explored lots of textures to make collages and paintings! We scooped out fish from our sensory water beads tray to practise our fine motor skills and we made marks in our blue playdough with rollers and small utensils! During storytime we looked at cartoon characters that are blue.
Mrs Wheelhouse's favourite part was asking the children to bring in blue objects from home! Just have a look at what the table looked like before and after! We had great fun looking at all the children's things!
